Types of Invalidity

If you can't find a resident in the database or if you can't read the handwriting, you need to mark the signature as invalid.

You will choose one of three rejection reasons:

  • Illegible – handwriting is so unreadable you cannot even make a genuine search attempt for the name or address.

  • Failed Match – name and address are readable enough to make a genuine search attempt for the name or address, but no match appears.

  • Wrong Town - the town that the voter is registered to vote in is different from the town written on the bottom of the sheet.

To mark a signature as invalid, you need to select the signature splice itself. If you don't do this, your cursor will be in the search box. To highlight the signature image box, click on it so your cursor is removed from the search box.

From there, you need to physically press the corresponding key on the keyboard. You also need to be selecting the signature image box itself to press these keys because otherwise, you would just be typing in the search box.

To mark a signature as Failed Match, click on the splice and press "a" while selecting the spliced image in the center.

To mark a signature as Illegible, click on the splice and press "w" while selecting the spliced image in the center.

To mark a signature as Wrong Town, click on the splice and press "d" while selecting the spliced image in the center.
